Hen's tooth found............and valued !

At Classic Heroes we have many longstanding friends and customers around the world with fantastic collections of very special cars. They regularly call us for a natter about the market or for help sourcing parts, insurance valuations, vehicle sales or to book workshop time for full scale restoration projects.

However, every now and then we get called in to help with something very special and ultra rare. You know the feeling. That odd occasion when you see something so unexpected that you can’t help biting the back of your clenched fist to control that surge of jealousy rushing through your veins.

This beautiful E12 MLE was one of those occasions for us. We have wanted an MLE for our own collection of cars for some time now and were truly delighted when these stunning pictures dropped into our in-box with a request for an insurance valuation.

For those of you not familiar with the MLE, it was a Motorsport special edition 530 E12 built for the South African market in the mid 1970’s. Around 105 were built through a special collaboration involving BMW AG, BMW South Africa and Schnitzer.

The cars are unique as they were the first Motorsport or ‘M’ designated BMW’s in the world preceding the M1 by almost a year. Lightweight bodies, Scheel seats, a performance M30 engine with dogleg gearbox and special Mahle rims. The cars were built with no power steering, air conditioning, or electric windows.

We believe there are now only 12 of these special cars left in the world and this particular chassis must be one of the very best. The car has been subject to a full scale sympathetic restoration by a long term enthusiast collector and to an incredible level of detail.

Fortunately for you, our client has given permission to post these pictures for your enjoyment.
