hassis Number 2770998 was manufactured on 6th June 1975, with the purchase order for the car placed via the main BMW concessionaire – Jensen Motors Ltd, Newmarket, New Zealand.

The first owner really went to town with the options list and as a result this particular Tii is very well specified. The following factory options were added from new :

5 Speed close ratio gearbox

Limited Slip Differential
Mahle alloy sports wheels
Motorsports Steering Wheel
Hella Driving Lights
Bumper over-riders – Front (Code 65.2)
Lockable Fuel Tank Cap (Code 82.2)

We were lucky enough to find and purchase the car from it’s collector owner and in the summer of 2010 we imported it to the UK. On 22 September 2010 it was registered in UK for the first time.

This particular 2002 Tii is undoubtedly one of the finest and original un-restored examples left in the world. It benefits from an interesting history, a very unusually high specification and extremely low mileage – just 15,600 miles from new.

The car also has all its original service books, keys, Becker Radio and a comprehensive set of invoices receipts andMOT certificates.

Chassis 2770998 truly does deserve the title of “The Ultimate Tii”

At the time of purchase there was 100% import duty on all foreign cars coming into New Zealand making it a very expensive acquisition. The basic UK list price of a 2002 Tii in April 1973 was £2,800 which if you index linked to today’s prices would equate to £21,500. If you then add on 100% import duty to get the car into New Zealand the base price would have been something approaching £6,000 or £60,000 in today’s terms.

The final NZ purchase price, back in 1975 is understood to have been NZ$15,000 or NZ$150,000 today.

The car was bought by it’s second owner on 20th August 1979 for NZ$8,000 by which time it had covered just 12,213 KM. Some 13 years later, with a mileage of 22,435 he finally sold it to a Christchurch BMW Dealership – Blackwell Motors.

Blackwells carried out various routine maintenance work and used the car as a static display in their showroom for the next 3 years. On 1st May 1995 this immaculate car was bought by a motoring enthusiast who entered it into many concours events – Often winning !

The 2002 Tii then entered it’s second period of long term ownership when sold to a collector. He kept the car for 11 years but covered just 1,000 KM during this period. The car was then sold to another collector on 6th March 2007 with mileage of only 24,056 KM.
