BMW E39 M5 Only 27,000 miles

No Longer Available

hen the handsome and sophisticated E39 5-series was launched, a suitably large injection of performance and attitude was required. To create this third generation of M5, BMW didn’t disappoint with the technological marvel that was the S62 V8 – 4.9 litres, 48 valves, 400bhp, 7000rpm red line, 369lb ft of torque at 3800rpm mated to a slick six speed manual and the beginnings of the configurable electronics that would underpin future generations of M cars. The button labelled Sport triggers sharper drive-by-wire throttle response and a little more steering weight. And, as with so much else about the E39 M5 it’s just about perfect.

The E39 M5 looks as an M car should with a lower, more muscular stance and bulging arches amply stuffed with 245/40 18s at the front and 275/35 18s at the rear. This was also the first appearance of the M GmbH’s now signature quad tailpipes.

Even 20 years after its introduction 0-60mph in 4.8sec would still shame many a super car, and the wonderfully smooth and free-revving V8 is music to the ears. However, and we at Classic Heroes love this, the E39 M5 is even more memorable for a chassis that combines crisp steering, fantastic grip, but with great comfort and an almost absurdly exploitable chassis, ensuring that driver and passengers are kept equally happy, though not necessarily at the same time!

This M5 is simply the best example we have seen in a very, very long time. As you would expect with only 27,000 miles and two owners, the car is as new inside and out. The car is 100% blemish free. Extraordinary condition throughout. I would like to use the words “the best”!

I have personally known the car since 2012 when purchased by the second owner. The car lived with us in long-term storage as it was part of a collection.  I think it would be safe to say, that there can be no bigger enthusiast for the E39 M5 than this second owner.  This was the third E39 M5 to be added to his collection.

The supporting document file with the car contains the invoice to the first owner (Cannon Rubber), the purchase invoice for the car by Sytner BMW in 2012 and showing the M5 being taken in part exchange against an Alpina D5 Bi-Turbo and finally the sales invoice to the second owner.

A silly but rather fun little bit of detail is the Caramel rubber over-mats fitted by the first owner to protect the velour BMW mats, showing the manufacturer as Cannon Rubber.
