1980 BMW M1
hassis Number 4301332 was manufactured by BMW Motorsport in October 1980 and is one of 453 BMW M1’s produced, 54 of which were (Procars) race cars.
It is one of 61 cars manufactured in the BMW Motorsport colour called Nicht Blau (59 road cars & 2 race cars).

The owner returned to live in Switzerland in 1983 and the car was re-imported back to Europe in the summer of 1983 and eventually sold to the third owner in 1984. This particular owner placed his new M1 into his large private collection of prestigious automobiles and used the car very sparingly. In fact, for most of his 27 years of ownership, the car remained on special “collectors” registration plates and the only significant journey he undertook was a trip to the Nurburgring.
To date, this 3 owner BMW M1 has covered just 36,000 KM (22,000 miles) and is in factory standard and original un-restored condition. It retains all its service books, workshop manual, tool kit, first aid kit, radio and manual plus all the original advertising brochures used by BMW to market the M1. These include the very rare luggage brochure, upholstery brochure and Motorsport accessory catalogue from 1980.

The list price quoted when the M1 was first launched in Paris in 1978 was DM 100,000 or circa £27,000. However, by the September 1980 the German list price had increased to DM 144,000 or circa £36,000. The M1 was never sold in the UK so the vehicles were marketed by BMW Motorsport as “ex works” and they required buyers to personally import the car. Servicing work was to be carried out by BMW GB at Reading. After adding 10% special car tax and 17.5% VAT, the “UK list” price equated to £37,500 – the equivalent of just over £120,000 in today’s money. By comparison, A Ferrari 512 BB cost £35,100, A Porsche Turbo £27,950 and an Aston Martin Vantage £36,999.
This particular car is one of the last BMW M1’s manufactured and was delivered on 13th October 1980 to the main BMW Concessionaires in Belgium – Kontich, Pierstraat 23. The car was supplied as factory standard and without any extras or modifications other than the very expensive Motorsports seats and was first registered in Belgium on 29th December 1980. After spending the first two years of its life in Belgium, the vehicle was sold in March 1982 and exported to Canada. The original export papers and documents are retained with the car.
