Just 524 right-hand-drive examples of the E24 M635 CSi were built between 1985 and 1989, and even today the M635 CSi offers an unrivalled blend of exclusivity, build quality, practicality and, of course, effortless continent crossing performance.

Although already a well maintained example, in 2014 this car was given to us for a no expense spared, age related rebuild totalling circa £20,000. The instruction to us was that the car had to be turnkey and usable on a daily basis, ensuring long distance touring holidays around Europe went without hiccup. Since then the car has covered less than 1000 miles and has lived with us in our storage facility.

New front wings and rear panel were fitted to the car and then we carried out a full respray. New stripes, gutter mouldings, trim and chrome bumper sections were replaced as part of the reassembly.  The body shell was then carefully Waxoyled for long term protection.

The M635 had two Achilles heels that are easily rectified. Firstly the highly expensive, metric, Michelin TRX tyres are very tricky to get hold of and rather date the driving experience, especially in the wet. We have updated her to 17” BBS split rims running modern Continental tyres. Secondly, the M635 brakes feel slightly wooden on a car of this performance when compared with modern items. These have been updated with larger Brembo front brake discs and calipers giving a far more modern brake feel.  The car will be delivered with the original wheels and calipers to be stored away for long term originality.

Watch our buying guide, including the background and model history of the M635 CSi:

The touring capability of this superb coupe still impresses today. A superbly appointed cabin, with the trademark 70’ & 80’s BMW ‘acres of glass’ for superb vision, a lavish array of creature comforts such as full leather, sports seats, air conditioning, sunroof, and on-board computer. Of course four ‘proper’ seats (with rear head rests) and a commodious boot all add to the practicality, whilst the much revered M88 3.5 litre, 24-valve, 286bhp engine delivers the excitement.

This sporting thoroughbred will sprint to sixty in six seconds and, in an awesome display of torque, pulls smoothly and increasingly rapidly from 25mph to 158mph in fifth gear. Overtaking ability is equally impressive with 30-70mph taking a mere 5.5 seconds. A Getrag sport gearbox, limited slip diff, Bilstein gas-filled dampers, Motorsport springs, larger diameter roll bars, larger wheels and bigger ventilated discs with M1-spec 4-pot calipers are all testimony to a proud racing heritage, and the bespoke nature of this Garching product.

The M635 must surely rank as the ultimate everyday supercar – a blend of classic GT styling,  blindingly quick, satisfying on the twisty bits, effortlessly refined as a motorway mile-eater and just as easy to simply totter around to the supermarket.

The history file is superb. Not just the fully stamped service book from new, the handbooks, wallet, original tools and period Blaupunkt radio are also still present. The document file supporting this car has MOTs and invoice documents back to 1991 with only 38,000 miles.

The current owner's work commitments have changed, and he is now not visiting Europe regularly enough to justify keeping her with us in storage. So, it is with regret that he has asked us to find her a new home.

This stunning M635 will pass through the workshop prior to delivery, and although she wants for nothing, she will be serviced, PDI’d and have a new MOT issued.
