1989 BMW M635 CSI

Unique amongst sports coupes, the M635 offers an unrivalled blend of exclusivity, build quality, practicality and performance. Four ‘proper’ seats, a commodious boot and a lavish array of creature comforts all add to the practicality whilst the much revered 3.5 litre 24-valve 286bhp engine delivers the excitement. This sporting thoroughbred will sprint to sixty in six seconds and, in an awesome display of torque, pulls smoothly and increasingly rapidly from 25mph to 158mph in fifth gear. Overtaking ability is equally impressive with 30-70mph taking a mere 5.5 seconds. A ZF sport gearbox (no auto option), limited slip diff, gas-filled dampers and bigger ventilated discs with M1-spec 4-pot callipers are all testimony to a proud racing heritage.

Chassis Number 0760511 was manufactured in January 1989. This car is Number 511 out of a run of 524 RHDM635 CSI’s and 1 of only 101 special “Highline” editions. It was manufactured in the last month of production and is one of the very last cars produced. Chassis 0760511 was a ‘standard’ factory order; if such a thing could be said of such a fabulously luxurious and exclusive vehicle and carried a list price of £44,411.85. This put the M6 firmly in the upper levels of the Porsche 911 range.
The purchase price of £44,411.85. The initial deposit was £3.239.55 followed by 57 monthly payments of £1,079.85. The cost of the finance was £20,379.15 and brought the total price of the vehicle to a staggering £64,791. The Kenwood radio cost an additional £1,400. To put this list price further in perspective, UK house prices peaked in the 3rd quarter of 1989 (when the car was purchased) at an average of £62,782; by any means the M6 was a very expensive car. This M6 was therefore actually more expensive than the average price of a house in the UK in 1989 !!
The vehicle was only used for a period of 2 years and this is confirmed in a letter provided by the previous owner. Over the course of the next 11 years the car travelled only 292 miles and was kept stored in the owners heated garage at his home.
The car has now covered a total mileage of 22,466 miles in its 19 year life.
