The E28 M5 needs no introduction...

For a long time now we have been struggling to supply E28 M5s to an ever growing list of customers keen to get their hands on BMWs ultimate super saloon. With only 187 European right hand drive examples built, demand massively outstrips supply.

 

The remaining superb examples are now mainly locked away in long term ownership and we are unable to prise these special cars away from protective owners. Others are simply too rusty, badly maintained, poorly restored and like all classic cars, went through that period of time when value was almost nothing and the wrong owners got hold of them. Most E28 M5s offered to us for sale would be rejected. They would not be good enough for our collection so certainly not good enough for our customers.

 

This supply problem lead to us embarking on a very exciting project. A suitable donor has been sourced for this project. We are embarking on a total nut and bolt rebuild of an E28 M5.

The example we have chosen is Delphin grey with full silver leather. All the usual options including air conditioning, electric sunroof are present. The car comes with all original manuals, service book, handbooks, tools, spare keys, warning triangle and first aid kit. The service book is fully stamped and she has a full service history from new.

This build has been a long time in the planning. Our aim is to present the lucky new owner with an as close new E28 M5 as is possible.

 

The body shell has been away to our team of fabricators and carefully media blasted to ensure any corrosion problems however minuscule are exposed and dealt with. The shell will now be restored with all new inner front and rear wheel housings, new inner wing closing panels, new front panel, new outer fills, new front wings, new doors, new rear wings and rear panel. The car will then have a bare metal repaint to the highest possible standard.

The interior will go to our trimmers for full restoration and all new exterior and interior trim where possible will be fitted.

Mechanically every single component on the car will be inspected and checked. Every single bit of rubber on the car will be renewed. Every suspension, bush, mounting, engine mounts, gearbox mount, differential mount, hoses, hydraulics, new cylinders, clutch, pipes, new calipers and complete brakes, water pump, thermostat, wheel bearings, O ring, oil seals, Etc, Etc. Far too much to list. The gearbox checked and differential rebuilt with new bearings. Every suspension component will be sent away for blasting and powder coating. Every bracket, spacer, shim will be re-cadmium plated. The engine is currently being stripped, cleaned, inspected and fully rebuilt. The wiring loom completely restored. Original radio fitted to the car and air conditioning rebuilt with new condenser and receiver dryer. Every single component of the car, before being refitted will be replaced if necessary, checked, inspected cleaned, rebuilt and detailed as required.

 

There is far too much detail to put in to words. The level of restoration during this project will be extraordinary. Every aspect of the build will be photographed and documented.

 

We believe this will be the best rebuilt E28 M5 available and will be handed over to the lucky new owner with a numbered hardback book capturing the rebuild in both words and pictures.
